Welcome to the CHRGIS Educational Tool Development blog
Please contribute suggestions to expand the interactive capabilities of the CHRGIS website.
We are looking for new ideas and technology that will:
3. Expand the educational resource through application of new technology or plug-in tools.
a. Callenge studies-screen capture software-other data playing with the two screens
b. Slide cast-movie or audio-end to means
c. Area science teachers blog and email
We look forward to your comments that will make the CHRGIS more effective in the classroom.
This blog may be updated to request additional requests after the presentations April 27 and 28.

I think a voice thread that showed the pictures of the shoreline changing one right after the other would be very helpful. This way, students can really see the physical change, and the voice thread could be used to explain these changes.
ReplyDeletevoicethreads could be very helpful so that the teacher could teach and then the students could still go on the site and go through it on their own. The voicethread will help the students to hear it and understand more what is going on if this is used as independant practice after already taught by the teacher.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be helpful to add a blog for students to reflect on what they researched on the site. This can be a place where they can ask eachother questions and discover more about this topic.
ReplyDeletevoicethreads would engage students to pay attention to the teachers lesson. I think that if a voicethread showed how certain beaches, like University Beach, has changed over the years they might have a better understanding of why is this change happening.
ReplyDeleteI think this website is very useful for the future in teaching. i think that with technology being used a lot more, this gives students a better opportunity to explore and research more on what they are interested in, and with living a long the coast and the beach being almost everyones favorite place to go, i think this is great for students to find out above and beyond what exactly goes on our beaches and how they emerge into what they see ! i think some more slidecasts or voicethreads would be better for the students to actually understand the information being provided!
ReplyDeleteA slideshare or slidecast presentation of each aspect (contour, elevation, etc.) of the the different dates of aerial pictures that follow each other would be helpful to younger students as they do not always have the ability to know where to navigate.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you can have a place where students could ask questions, like Sandy says or something???
ReplyDeleteYou talked about the high tides time and the effects that it has on the beach. Perhaps you could make a short movie about this with commentary.
You should post the times when the brine shrimp do their flying in the air thingy.
Just different events that happen seasonal.
I think that adding various things such as a voicethread or slidshare would be a great idea. I think that we need to remember that not all students will learn the same. Some students need the items that are more visual and have sound. I think that other students would rather read on their own and work at thier own pace. I think that this is a great website. By adding some more interactive things, this could appeal to even more students.
ReplyDeleteMovies of students on a field trip visiting these beaches and discussing what they see might be good for the site.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other comments a slideshare or slidecast would be a great idea. Maybe have a split screen so can compare the different screens, instead of minimize the screen.
ReplyDeleteThis is really good information, but the problem is spreading it. If there were more interact tools for the younger children. If you were able to create voice thread with different little parts of the information. You could combine things to create slide casts. This is like a powerpoint online that people can visit. Another thing you could do is find a video or create one with someone verbally explaining the overall parks of the information, this would help to spark the interest of the information.
ReplyDeleteI think a voicethread would be great and you can have it while they are seeing the pictures. To kind of help explain what the picture is showing. I know when we were going through the pictures I didnt really understand of what was happening. So maybe having a voicethread with the picture would be helpful. It would be interesting and engaging to them!
ReplyDeleteA blog and/or a voicethread can be very useful for students when discussing this topic. Student feedback and reflection on the topic can be beneficial for students learning performance. Overall, students learn by seeing what is being taught. What better than a blog to link websites and a voicethread to watch and listen to any research on the topic.
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in class when students take a weekly basis field trip down to near a coastal beach and create voice threads, and slidecast with the information they gather. Once they are done, they can now introduce this to other peers.
ReplyDeleteAn interactive movie would be an interesting addition to the site. I think the section with the views of the cutaway portions would be a good place to add a movie. Any type of animation is good for younger students.
ReplyDeleteVoice thread and other engaging tools would definitely provide an expansion of technology. Digital story telling of how the university beach was created might also ecourage more interaction.
ReplyDeleteI also think a voice thread is a good idea. Another idea is to provide links to sites that are mentioned in the website for the students to get additional information. Students might also benefit from a CHRGIS blog where they can all get together, blog, and respond to one another.
ReplyDeleteIf students could participate in a series, with another school, in another state, or country, one-on-one, it would be awesome. You could voice thread, and apply translating options if you find another school in another country. We have oceans throughout the world, students could compare and share different types of oceans. . . teachers could log reading, science, or geographical assessments and target the instruction. You could pilot your blog!!!
ReplyDelete(I should get paid for this!! LOL!! Good luck!)
I think that adding a VoiceThread with pictures of the changing shorelines would be a great way for students to see the differences in the beach. This website is very useful for teachers, and making it even more appealing to students would make it even better!
ReplyDeleteI think that the website was ery useful and it can be used as a tool for teaching students about beaches, erosion, and such. The pictures help students to visualize what is being taught, and a voice thread would engage students more. I also think that an interactive blog will be an interesting tool for students to use and will help the teacher understand where the student stands in their studies.
ReplyDeleteI think voice thread would be a great tool to use! You could show different pictures of a particular shorelines ageing process and add your personal comments to each picture. You could also allow the people to comment and ask questions through voice thread as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming in today to infrm us more on our beaches. I have meet a few people who have lived here for year and have never been to the beach shocking but it is true.I think this website is great. It’s technical enough to get the mind going with all the new words yet it is simple so that a young student could use. It would be great to put some of it into a voice thread or series of voice threads. Right no I have to make a week worth of lesson plans for one of my classes and it is over the ocean unit and I think this web site would a tool to use as a source to learn about the ocean. I also think local students should know the blessing we have to have a beach so close and if they have never been then this website could help them find out a little more before the decide to visit one of our beaches.
ReplyDeleteHey Everyone,
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to review the site and post your suggestions. I hope to implement many over the summer!
