  1. I like the outline that has links to various different spots on the site. Adding a voicethread tutorial would be helpful for teachers and students to nevigate the site. In addition, I think that it would attract elementary students more if there were a video that explains how shoreline changes occur. By adding narration to these pictures in a kid-friendly way, will entice younger students.

  2. For kids I think pictures and videos would help out greatly. A lot of kids will look at pictures first and read the captions underneath it before reading the information. I thought it was well organized and easy to navigate from website to website.

  3. The flow can be more inviting by incorporating more graphics and/or photos. Younger students are very visually stimulated, and will be able to better navigate the site through pictures. Sound effects would also be appealing. Especially when looking at the data on the changing coastline. Sounds of waves would be a great background sound.

  4. The information is really good information. I feel like having the two different sites might be helpful. Some people may feel overwhelmed if they are not technology proficient. It was not hard for me to figure out what was going on, but others it may be easier to have the information broken up so that anyone using this as a teaching tool will not get overwhelmed and stop using the site.

  5. I believe that if you make a button for the kids so they could click on it. Then have kid friendly graphics and such for the lower grades you might get a lot more usage out of the website. Also short two and three minute movies about how the sand moves..Sort of like the pocket beaches you were talking about. Do a time elasped film of over several days or weeks, while explain through vioce what is happening. You could even have seashore sounds in the background.
I also liked the idea of a game about the different types of sand. Perhaps you could do that with the underwater environmental changes.

  6. Flow can be major effect and efficient way in inviting kids to this with a voice threads, slidecast, and many other technology resources that students are now being introduce to. Voice threads can also be created by students, that would be awesome and attractive to other student peers.

  7. I agree that a voice thread tutorial would be very helpful. Maybe also a "help" button for when students (and teachers) get lost!

  8. I agree with Terri, pictures and sound would be wonderful especially if teachers will be using this site in the classroom for their students.

  9. I think that the website has a great outline. I think that really shows kids what they are looking at and is a great way to break this down. I would possibly add some voicethreads to the website. I think that this would be a good idea for the students that need more help with reading. I also think it would be a great idea to explain something in more detail.

  10. The information was very interesting. However, for children of the elementary school level, it would become a little receptive and seemed to be drawing on and on. If you could either create a smaller website, with a little less wording or provide a link with a pathway to younger children. THe main thing to remember is the more wording and linking there is the harder it is for some pople to understand, or follow. If there were more pictures to explain all the information a little more; that way it would be able to get the children's attention more. It also would help spark a little more interest with them.

  11. For kids I think they will love more pictures and brightness of colors. Maybe a slideshare or slidcast. That will illustrate pictures of the data and beaches, also have audio to the pictures. For the other students the pictures of shoreline i think they would enjoy the pictures from up from the sky, and comparison from land picture.

  12. Having the two different sites is helpful. I was kind of overwhelmed at first so im sure other people will be too with the site. I think having videos to guide would be helpful. Also have a video of the actual beach so they can have something else to see other than the pictures. I have to agree that having sounds of waves would be interesting. But the information is good.

  13. Personally, I appreciate websites that offer a more step by step instruction. However, everyone works differently. I believe a menu driven guide would be beneficial for students who are just beginning. Once the students have become familiar with the website, they can offer peer support for those who may need more help. Visuals such as pictures/symbols and sound effects are great tools for students to manuever their way through the website. The images and sound effects would also be great for the special education population who are overwhelmed by a large amount of text.

  14. the flow of the information provided is very well layed out, although i think more for older minds. With trying to teach this to elementary students would be a little difficult considering most of them dont really know how to use the web that well. But i think with more life pictures comparing to the virtual and graph pictures would be a little more understanding. i know with just me browsing through the webpage, it all seems very interesting, but i think i would be more interested with more efficient explanation to explain to the kids.

  15. I like Becky's idea about a section that is just designed for younger children. I did notice that there is a section that is under development relating to this. I feel that this website would get a lot of usage from teachers of younger students if there were a section that was "kid-friendly" and easy for students to use with minimal adult supervision.

  16. I think the site needs to be more kid friendly. The site can be confusing because there are so many places to click and windows popping up. I would suggest having a button or link to click on for a teacher/student section. This sectin should be easier to navigate. I also agree with Ambria who suggested brighter colors and more pictures. Kids are very visual and need to see what they are learning about without having to click on date boxes and refresh pictures.

  17. I agree that all of the information available on this site is great, but it may be a bit confusing for students in much younger grade levels. I guess my only suggestion is to have something available for a much younger audience or "kid friendly." More pictures, voicethread, interactive games, printable, etc.

  18. Age appropriateness is very important. Modifying the site, or creating a jr. link for younger students to participate in, interact, and navigate could help your blog become more appealing to those students. Voice threading in a child's voice would be really cool too. Keeping the blog simple would also be less initimidating to a younger student.
